LIGHT is an after school program for high school students (currently at West and East High Schools) that focuses on academic enrichment in a fun, positive and safe environment. LIGHT is for all high school youth, especially those who are at risk for academic failure and those who may need additional support and services to be successful and reach their full potential in life. A conscientious effort is made to target African-American youth.
We employ a highly relational approach through the use of staff and consistent, mature, long-term volunteers who serve as coaches and mentors. In addition to the after school program we offer various workshops, field trips and occasional week-long college tours.
Beyond the academic focus our goals are to strengthen each participant in the areas of goal setting, personal development plans, motivation, empowerment, leadership development and pursuing post-secondary education.
